The Chilean artist Antonietta Inostroza Garabito is a graduate of the School for Dramatic Arts in Concepción, Chile, where she studied Acting, Directing and Theater. Acting allows Antonietta to express her emotions and empathy for others. Directing and theater education give her the opportunity to teach actors to take on artistic and creative risks and share what she has learned from her own life experiences. For Antonietta, work in the arts is a fundamental vehicle for communication and expression.
Antonietta worked on a variety of acting and theater projects in her native Chile including street theater, where she won the FONDART prize; improvisational comedy; mask-making; informational children’s theater focused on health issues and prevention; a production of “Ajedrez”; acting in nine professional theatrical works; and directing an award-winning stage production. Out of all these projects, improvisational comedy has excited her the most, as it allows for enormous social identification through the use of archetypal characters and complicated comedic situations in which verbal and body language elicit laughter and social critique from the audience. Antonietta identifies deeply with ArtCorps’ goals and is excited to bring together her extensive theater experience and passion for social issues.
“To me art represents change, it represents dedication, commitment, discipline, society, empathy, struggle and sharing what happens to each of us.”
