Spanish artist Pau Urgell Plaza is a graphic designer and musician. To Pau, art is a versatile language capable of accomplishing many different objectives, such as transmitting an emotion or transforming a situation. Working in graphics for a Spanish television network, he used interactive technologies including video and animation, and he is also skilled in drawing and illustration.  As a musician, he has taught classes in composition, piano, guitar and percussion, and he has performed with various bands, playing jazz, ska, folk and other styles.

Along with his love for art and music, Pau has a great passion for the natural environment and is studying biology. He has volunteered with various international cooperation projects: in Ecuador, reforesting mangrove swamps, denouncing illegal eucalyptus plantations and raising awareness in the local population through murals; in Botswana, assisting the maintenance of a reserve where wild animals and particularly the white rhinoceros are re-introduced into the wild; in Morocco, reconstructing a solar system; in the Dominican Republic, teaching in an orphanage. In all of these projects, Pau worked closely with local groups to achieve a common goal.

Personal Statement

“The moment has come to do something bigger, to undertake a more complex project. Further, this opportunity [with ArtCorps] is very special to me because it brings together two important factors: art, which has always been a part of my life as a means of communication, and the environment, my passion that I would never tire of defending.”
